This isn't a comprehensive or prescriptive scheme of work. The Science Brainery is designed to help teachers feel confident in the classroom and give them resources and tools to shortcut their planning and encourage engagement.
Building confidence
Each topic in the curriculum has a teacher section with background info on the topic in the form of really short videos - perfect for a quick refresh before a lesson! Along with common misconceptions, links to the wider curriculum and some interesting scientists to study.
For use with the children in class, there are explainer videos - a mixture of animations and talking head style, experiment guides and online games.
Encouraging Engagement
Consistency matters when bringing Science to life across your curriculum. With our system, classes earn Eureka Points each time they complete an activity, moving steadily through the levels from Yocto Genius all the way to Yotta Genius. Each milestone automatically triggers a certificate for teachers to print and celebrate with their class.
Importantly, points are awarded simply for taking part, not for performance. This ensures every pupil is recognised for engaging with the activity, building confidence and rewarding their willingness to get involved.
